I found out that I am a F*CK-Head

March 14th, 2002 · 9 Comments · Babbling

I got called a ‘F*CK-HEAD’ at work today. A customer was not impressed that I would not send him a replacement copy of a piece of software that we did not have in stock, via a taxi cab at that very moment.
He had purchased a game, when he got home and opened it, their was no CD-ROM in the package. Fair enough, this sort of thing can happen due to errors at the packaging plant, whatever…
I offered a refund, he did not want a refund. He wanted the software sent to him via Taxi, today.
“We do not have anymore copies, we will have more in two days, we can replace it then.”
He seemed to miss the point, since he still continued that I send send him a copy today.
I was actually quite proud of how calmly I handled the situation as he began to yell and call me a f*ckhead for not sending the software to him.
As soon as he began using profanity, I hung up the phone. No Goodbye, no politeness, I just hung up, this is my standing policy.
He immediately called back. I politely continued the conversation.

Customer: “Send me a copy today”
Me: “We do not have a copy”
Customer: “Send me a copy”
Me: “You can have a refund today, or you can wait for a replacement.”
Customer: “I’m calling the police, you have committed fraud!”
Me: “If you feel you must call the police, go ahead, but I do not think you will get very far with that approach.”
Customer: “Give me a refund now.”
Me: “If you bring in the defective product, I can return your money”
Customer: “I’m not coming in, give me my refund now.” (He paid cash, I guess I was supposed to send the cash via Taxi)
Me: “I have to get back to work now, this conversation is going nowhere.”
Customer: “I’m calling the police”
Me: “Good luck with that, have a good day.”

I haven’t heard back from him so far. I found the whole situation quite amusing, it brightened my day.

Was it a young kid? I would have loved to listen into the conversation he had with the police :) That would have been just as funny.

No, it was a grown man. I would guess 40+
Someone who should have a sense of reasonable behaviour.

What a nasty customer! I’ve encountered annoying customers in my previous job, but not as nasty or ‘funny’ as this one. :)

Is this what i get to look forward to in Simcoe?
One of the girls at work got called a miserable c*$t and was told she was going straight to hell.
I never get people like that.

Customers such as these are few and far between. Which is nice. It would scare me if there were more people with such an incredibly deficient sense of reason.
Perhaps he will call back or come into the store today.

I’m impressed that you answered the phone the second time and continued the conversation. Kudos!

Customers… don’t they always make a good topic for posting. It’s possible to blog without them, but man… it’s so much easier with them around :D

For that reason, they are good. 8^)
And because without them, I would not have enough money (aka credit) to buy my computer parts…
